One of the top emerging technologies of 2018!
Rising in significance along the business landscape is the alignment of business and IT. Business technology is the ever-increasing reliance on information technology, by businesses of all types, to handle and optimize their business processes.
Gartner reports the result of a survey showing 42% of CEOs have begun digital business transformation. This has happened in large part due to an increased CEO understanding of digital business. What was speculative 5-10 years ago, has become a reality.
Hybrid Cloud
Chief among the growing group of digital disruptive elements are three familiar players: the Internet of Things (IoT), intelligent agents and Hybrid Cloud. This brief summary focuses on Hybrid Cloud.
Just as a hybrid EV is a car with both gasoline and electric motors – the gas motor generating electricity and the electric motor moving the car – so Hybrid Cloud is a mixture of two elements. One element is the management of IT resources in-house. The other is the use of cloud-based services for other business resources.
This hybrid approach allows a business to maintain control of its data and structure while getting a feel for the benefits of cloud computing.
Data Control
Many businesses feel a strong need to control their data, yet want to benefit from the rapid deployment of cost effective services such as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), extensive data storage and virtual hardware expansion or reduction.
Gartner reports that Hybrid IT is transforming the role and scope of traditional IT. Hybrid IT is used interchangeably with the term Hybrid Cloud, although the cloud is generally considered a broader base of services.
Internal vs. External
Another way of describing the Hybrid Cloud model is to speak of internal and external IT environments. Internal would be the management data control, while external would be tentative reliance on cloud services. For SMB’s the IT involvement at both the internal and external level would be the IT Services Manager, the role Alliant assumes for our customers.
